Small-scale LNG market in Lithuania

Reloading station, 2025 volumes and active suppliers to end users

Lithuania is a key small-scale LNG hub in the Baltic region. The centre of the system is the Klaipėda LNG reloading station (KN Energies) — the only small-scale LNG terminal in the Baltic states and Poland. From there, trucks and small vessels supply customers in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and, above all, Poland. On the commercial side, several active traders offer LNG from this station to end users.

1. Infrastructure: Klaipėda reloading station

The station has operated since October 2017 next to the large-scale Klaipėda LNG terminal. It receives LNG from small-scale carriers, stores it temporarily and reloads it into road tankers, ISO containers, small vessels and for bunkering.

  • Five above-ground tanks of 1,000 m³ each (5,000 m³ total).
  • Truck-loading platforms and a jetty for small-scale vessels.
  • Commercial operator: Polish group ORLEN (agreement extended to 2030). Technical operation: KN Energies.

2. Volumes: 2025 record

Indicator 2025 / context
Truck loadings 1,834 (+31% vs 2024: 1,396)
December 2025 277 trucks — monthly record
Small-scale carriers 26 (+30% vs 2024: 20)
Cumulative since 2017 ~6,400 truck loadings
Main destinations Poland (historically ~80%), Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia

Growth confirms demand for a “virtual pipeline” in the region: off-grid industry, district heating, refuelling stations and local networks not connected to the main gas grid.

3. Active traders on Lithuania’s ssLNG market

Several traders offer LNG from the Klaipėda reloading station to end customers. Among the active players:

Company Role
JetGas UAB ssLNG supply to customers; part of the Baltic supply chain
Elenger Regional energy trader; LNG for industry and off-grid clients
SG Dujos UAB LNG supply to end users from Klaipėda
Omne Energia Energy trading, including ssLNG
Baltkonta UAB LNG supply from the reloading station to customers

These companies form the commercial layer between Klaipėda infrastructure (KN Energies / ORLEN) and end users: industry, boiler houses, local networks and transport. Competition among traders supports access to ssLNG for customers in Lithuania and neighbouring countries.

4. Regional role

  • Klaipėda links large-scale import with small-scale distribution across the Baltics and into eastern Poland.
  • Rising truck loadings and small-scale ship calls strengthen Lithuania’s role as a regional hub.
  • Looking ahead: service expansion (including interest in virtual biomethane liquefaction) and further demand growth in Poland and the Baltics.

5. Conclusion

Lithuania’s ssLNG market rests on the Klaipėda reloading station — the only small-scale hub in the Baltics and Poland. In 2025 the station set a record: 1,834 truck loadings and 26 small-scale carriers. The commercial layer is formed by traders — JetGas UAB, Elenger, SG Dujos UAB, Omne Energia and Baltkonta UAB — who offer LNG from Klaipėda to end users. For the region this is a working model: infrastructure plus several active suppliers equals accessible ssLNG for off-grid customers in four countries.
